Lecture Title
Quantum Thinking and Language Research: A Case Study of Semantic Rhetoric
Lecture Abstract
Influenced and propelled by the trend toward interdisciplinary language research, mathematical and physical sciences have entered the purview of language researchers. In recent years, quantum mechanics theory has been introduced into language research, attracting widespread attention from many scholars and giving rise to interdisciplinary approaches to language study. Drawing on the principle of nonlocality from quantum mechanics and a research model of the operational mechanisms of semantic rhetoric, we propose an analytical framework for semantic rhetorical mechanisms—the Nonlocal Correlation Model (NLCM)—and examine the processes of generating and interpreting semantic rhetoric. This study represents a preliminary attempt to apply quantum mechanics theory to the study of language phenomena, offering a new perspective for the exploration of semantic rhetoric and serving as a modest spur to invite further contributions.
