On May 10, the Germany Studies Large Model, developed by Professor Hu Kaibao and his team at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), was officially launched. This innovative achievement has drawn widespread attention in the field of area and country studies and is regarded by industry insiders as a significant breakthrough in the intelligentization of Germany studies. In recent years, as China's international exchanges have deepened, area and country studies have received increasing attention. The development of an internationally influential discourse system to serve national strategy has placed higher demands on gaining an in-depth understanding of the conditions of different countries. Against this backdrop, the Germany Studies Large Model emerged.

In traditional Germany studies, problems such as lengthy data collection cycles, slow updates, and inefficient data integration are common, often limiting the quality and timeliness of research outcomes. Meanwhile, general-purpose large models, lacking specialized knowledge bases, are prone to AI hallucinations in professional domains such as geopolitics, leading to factual errors. To address these challenges, the team developed the Germany Studies Large Model, which demonstrates significant advantages. The model covers data in German, English, and Chinese, with a total of over 330 million words. Its content spans multiple fields, including German history, culture, and science and technology, integrating 6,326 monographs and 2,766 academic articles, along with cutting-edge literature and interdisciplinary resources on topics such as Industry 4.0 and new energy. The data are collected, cleaned, and processed by a professional team, ensuring both quality and standardization.

The model employs retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technology and incorporates a German knowledge base of over 100 million words. Unlike general-purpose large models, this model not only enables broader retrieval and more comprehensive information acquisition but also draws on a vast array of authoritative academic sources, effectively avoiding knowledge limitations and factual errors. All responses include references to their sources, ensuring accuracy and traceability. The large model can be applied in diverse scenarios such as academic research, policy making, and business consulting. Scholars can use the model to access precise resources, improving research efficiency and quality; policy makers can leverage authoritative data to gain insights into German conditions, supporting informed decision-making; and enterprises can retrieve cutting-edge technology and market information on Germany through the model, providing data support for business expansion and strategic planning.

The launch of the Germany Studies Large Model represents a major breakthrough in the intelligentization of area and country studies by Professor Hu Kaibao and his team at Shanghai International Studies University. It provides a powerful tool for researchers, policy makers, and enterprises in related fields, and is expected to propel Germany studies and even area and country studies in China to new heights. In the future, the model will continue to be optimized and its application boundaries expanded, injecting new momentum into area and country studies.
